After completing the written exams for the Second State Examination, I completed my elective rotation at honert’s Munich office. My conclusion is simple: It was a very exciting three months, both professionally and personally, and I wouldn’t want to have missed this experience for anything.
During this time, I had the opportunity to assist with several corporate transactions, which allowed me to gain a fundamental understanding of the processes involved in this line of work. In addition, I was involved in general commercial, corporate, and tax law matters related to current clients. This enabled me to gain a comprehensive overview of the diverse work of a lawyer at a boutique firm.
The tasks assigned to me—which I was usually able to handle independently—were always challenging. However, I could always turn to any colleague, and they took the time to help whenever questions arose. I also received feedback on my work, which allowed me to gain real personal value and accumulate valuable experience.
Furthermore, I was able to collaborate with various partners and attorneys. You aren’t directly assigned to a single person. This provides a valuable opportunity to get to know different work styles and areas of specialization.
On a personal level, I was always treated with complete trust. If I had other commitments related to my legal clerkship, it was no problem to skip that day or reschedule my workday. In other respects as well, I was largely free to decide how often I wanted to be present.
In short: Even with the experiences I’ve had, I would go through this rotation again exactly the same way.
