Right from the start of my first semester, I found my law studies too theoretical. What bothered me most was the lack of practical relevance to the profession of a lawyer, so I decided to explore this aspect of my education on my own. I was introduced to honert through the partnership with the Bayreuth Initiative for Legal Tech e.V. I particularly appreciated the focus on business-related topics as well as the interest in legal technology at a time when now-well-known names, such as Harvey or Legora, were not yet on the market. At first, I was able to work remotely from Bayreuth for half a year without any issues, and after transferring to LMU in Munich, I got to experience not only honert’s outstanding professional expertise but also its undisputed unique selling point: the close-knit, family-like atmosphere.

From day one, I was welcomed with open arms and have been able to work as an equal ever since. My day-to-day work at the firm is quite varied, as I not only contribute to different projects but also take on a range of tasks within them. I find not only the highly business-oriented practice areas of M&A, venture capital, and tax law particularly exciting, but also the occasional overlaps between these areas. We further deepen this cross-disciplinary understanding during our professional lunch sessions. Every Thursday at noon, after a delicious lunch, we engage in an in-depth discussion led by a partner on a specific topic, exploring its nuances and how it intersects with other relevant areas of law. Finally, everyone at the firm is expected—and, above all, encouraged—to take a healthy dose of initiative, so I’m always able to contribute my ideas in the field of legal tech.

Conclusion: Given my particular interest in business—specifically the startup and venture capital (VC) scene—legal topics can sometimes feel rather dry to me. But not at honert! Here, I have the unique opportunity to combine my business interests with legal expertise while enjoying a great sense of camaraderie even outside the office.
