A team from honert, consisting of Dr. Kai-Klemens Wehlage, Martin Walter-Schunke, and Bastian Hosp, provided comprehensive legal advice to AT Newtec GmbH as lead investor in a financing round for AMSilk GmbH.

AMSilk GmbH, based in Neuried near Munich, is considered a pioneer in advanced biomaterials based on silk-based proteins. Using innovative biotechnology, the company reprograms microorganisms to produce silk-based proteins that can be processed into powders, hydrogels, fibers, and coatings. The 100 % protein-based, fully biodegradable, and microplastic-free materials set new standards for sustainability and functionality. This technology is already being used in textile solutions for the fashion and automotive industries, as well as functional ingredients in consumer care – with great potential for numerous other industries.

The financing round was led by the current investor AT Newtec – other investors are MIG Capital and Novo Holdings.

The fresh capital will be used strategically to further expand AMSilk’s commercial reach and drive forward the next phase of industrial scale-up. The company aims to meet the growing global demand for silk-based protein materials and significantly increase its production capacity in collaboration with selected industry partners. The financing marks a major milestone on the path to establishing a new industry for high-performance biotech materials in Europe and worldwide.
